Social Media Saturday’s: How to Build the Artist Brand USL September 12, 2015 Social Media Saturdays, USL Stories On this edition of Presenting… How to Build the Artist Brand By: Ayasha Roberson Twitter @ayasha7 If you are an artist and you are looking to get your brand to the next level, you are in the right place! Today I will be discussing how to build the artist brand as provide to you 5 quick tips. Tip 1: Talented Team Most artists miss this step. Before you introduce your brand to the world, you must have a talented team. The reason why I say talented team is because most artists will run out there and construct a team of individuals who don’t have very much talent or skill. As an artist, you need to invest in hiring a consultant who has knowledge and experience in Marketing and PR (Public Relations). You should never be the smartest person on your team! Brainstorm on and research the qualifications and experience that you will need the individuals on your team to have in order to build yourself a successful, dynamic and effective team. Tip 2: Website If you are an artist in the music industry, the second step is to create a website. It is important that your website designer’s background be marketing so that they have the ability to create you a website that will accurately reflect your brand. Without the right expertise and guidance, the website could easily end up like most indie artists’- a page online with some random content, and videos all over the place. I always tell my clients if you are unable to get the attention of your audience within 30 seconds of them landing on your homepage then you have lost that potential customer or sponsor. Your website is a digital storefront, meaning it represents your brand before your fan, client, or sponsor ever meets you. Make sure your website’s organizational structure is on-point with great content, allowing your brand to shine above the rest of the competition. Tip 3: Image Consulting Hiring an image consultant is very important in any industry, especially if you are aspiring to be in the entertainment or music industries. What is an image consultant? An image consultant guides you in presenting your best self. It doesn’t matter if you are an executive, individual, or an artist. An image consultant will help you with three main ingredients: Physical Appearance Behavior Communication The major component that artists miss is investing capital into their image. As an artist, your image should be polished and refined. Your image has to be marketed consistently, whether you are online or in person. Today, I urge you to invest seeking out a good image consultant that will help get your brand to the next level. Tip 4: Electronic Press Kit (EPK) The creation of an EPK is great for artists who are looking to get their brand to the next level. EKP allows your brand look more polished, professional, and serious than other artists who are still emailing bios on a word document with a picture. Here are the benefits of EPK: It gives concise, highly targeted information Stylishly delivered in a cost-effective fashion to assist you in promoting your brand Promoting upcoming shows Getting more shows bookings Landing a placement in television and film. You want potential sponsors and investors to take your brand seriously so invest into getting an EKP created today. Tip 5: Video Artists should have a video of themselves introducing their brand to the world. This video will be no longer than 2 to 4 minutes, and it should be posted to your website so that when visitors land on your website they have a good idea of what your brand is all about. When creating a video, it should not be created by someone who is amateur and unskilled in video production. Also, your video should not be created with your cell phone or Tablet. Your video should be professionally created, taped, and edited by someone who is highly skilled in video production. We are talking about Building Your Brand!
